CJ’S STORY

CJ is from Leigh Park and has turned eighteen years of age this year. A few months ago, they joined us at URBOND for multi-sport activities following a recommendation from a friend who attends. When CJ first started attending the activities, they would lose their temper with little instigation. We provided a positive platform for this young person to work on themselves and channel their anger in different ways. CJ made many friends and created lots of connections through the organisation, which really solidified their commitments to the URBOND cause.

After spending more time with us, this young person wanted to get more involved in the operations of URBOND. CJ asked how they could help and the next steps they could take. CJ became one of our coaches, giving them key responsibilities which changed them for the positive.

Through this gateway, CJ realised the qualifications they would need to take this opportunity further, and now have their Volleyball Coaching Level 1, their First Aid in the Workplace; Safeguarding Courses; and Enhanced DBS, (all provided and paid for by us here at URBOND). In addition, CJ was in a workplace they did not enjoy, where they were treated poorly with little respect. URBOND decided to make them an internal contracted worker, and part of the team as a result of their dedication and transformation.

CJ has been involved in all aspects of URBOND and is a notable, hard-working and vital part of the team.
